Meeting Outline

The "Asia Green Growth Partnership Ministerial Meeting (AGGPM)" will be held for the first time on October 4th, 2021 hosted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan. Ministers from Asia and other relevant countries, as well as representatives of international organisations, will be participating in the meeting.

Message from IEA Executive Director

International Energy Agency Executive Director
Dr. Fatih Birol

There is no single pathway that all countries must follow. Instead, countries need to chart their own course, drawing on the resources and technologies they have available and that match their own unique circumstances.
But to succeed in reaching carbon neutrality, cooperation and coordination among countries – including in Asia – will be crucial. That is why this dialogue is so important and the International Energy Agency is honored to be part of it.

Key Agendas

The core concept of energy transitions, and measures to achieve green growth through energy transitions in Asia, where energy demand is expected to grow with economic growth, will be discussed in the meeting. In particular, the meeting will share the idea that there is no single pathway to achieve carbon neutrality, but rather there are various paths for each country.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan will release a Chair's Statement to disseminate the outcomes of the discussions at the meeting to the international community.

1 Draw own pathways of Asian nations
for the Paris Agreement's goals

  • Green growth
    as a common goal
  • Various pathways
    to the common target
  • Overcoming challenges
    through partnerships

2 Promote "Energy Transitions"
that balance the economy and the environment

  • Balance of 3E (Energy Security, Economic Efficiency, Environment)
  • Providing engagement that
    leaves no country behind
  • Support and
    dissemination of innovation
